 Why is Australia called the land of Oz?

Post Why is Australia called the land of Oz?
Anyone know? Is it because the scenery is supposed to be dreamlike? Because "Aussie" sounds like "Oz"? Or is there something I'm missing here?

I don't know, but some people believe that the inspiration for the Land of Oz in The Wizard of Oz was Australia.
