I've heard that Singapore is the cleanist city in the world, also one of the most high tech cities.

Probably from making gum chewing illegal in 1992 until the United States-Singapore Free Trade Agreement in 2004 made it legal to chew gum for therapeutic purpose.

Not sure what they consider therapeutic but I am guessing maybe smoking cessation gum.
