I'd like to see China, but I'd stay the hell away from North Korea.

Is it possible to go to North Korea?

It is quite possible to travel to North Korea by way of China or South Korea. American citizens are advised to register online with the U.S. Embassy in Beijing or U.S. Embassy in Seoul and to also register with the Swedish Embassy in Pyongyang.

I have a friend in Beijing who visited North Korea. I remember her telling me that a NK police officer deleted many of the photos she took there, leaving her with only a few. Of course, you have to be very cautious about what you take into the country and what you try to take out. With that said, I would actually like to visit both South Korea and North Korea someday.

Hopefully North Korea will open up to the rest of the world. I couldn't imagine living there...

Hopefully conditions will improve for the people there! I read one travelers' account that basically said though they lived in abject poverty and under totalitarian rule, most people seemed happy because they just didn't know any better. Very few get to leave the country or interact with foreigners.

It's a horrible state that North Korea is in. I think it's like 50 years of being hidden from the rest of the world...
