 Hello
Hello, I'm new here. I travel for my work frequently mostly within the United States, but I've also visited Canada and East Asia. I am back from a recent trip to Beijing and I'll be returning to China again later this year (Shanghai, then Beijing again). I am looking forward to connecting with some other world travelers here, exchange some information and get off the beaten tourist path

 Re: Hello
Thank you! The trip was fantastic, can't wait to go back! It was great seeing the forbidden city, the great wall, heaven's temple, and having Peking duck at Quanjude! As I will be returning there again this year, I hope to find some more interesting places to visit, so that is in part why I'm here. We have a slideshow presentation of the trip here if anyone is interested http://www.slideshare.net/logictrip/beijing-trip-december-2008-presentation

 Re: Hello
From your slide show it looks like you have also been to Tiananmen Square. Maybe on your next trip you can check out the Summer Palace and maybe go to the top of the CCTV tower.

Thanks everyone. George wrote: From your slide show it looks like you have also been to Tiananmen Square. We did drive by it a couple times, it's an interesting looking skyscraper:

George wrote: Hi Carrera, I was thinking of another CCTV tower in Beijing Yes, I thought you meant the CCTV headquarters building which is also known as CCTV Tower. Wikipedia says the one you refer to is the tallest structure in Beijing, I bet the view is wonderful. Will report back with photos! You guys are great

 Re: Hello
Carrera, I just saw that skyscraper you posted a picture of in the news yesterday. Isn't that the building they refer to as "Giant Underpants"?

Yes, someone pointed out the resemblance to me as we were driving by. As you know, the building has been in the news lately... http://jamesfallows.theatlantic.com/archives/2009/02/just_to_round_out_the_cctv_fir.php

 Re: Hello
Wow. As a New Yorker that story is mind-boggling to me. Here commercial sales of fireworks are prohibited and any sanctioned holiday displays are done from barges on the Hudson River, so there's little chance of buildings catching fire.
